Don't get me wrong, Lyra Opera's performance/singing was entertaining and the NAC orchestra was, as usual, great. It's just that I had run 10K earlier in the day and was feeling a bit tired - that was my excuse to K.
Anyway, I was more awake when the light dimmed for Act III but don't ask me abt the whole story. Neither can I explain why a Scottish love tragedy was sung in Italians (with English and French subtitles flashing across the top of the stage) by Canadian performers dressed up as Scots.
After the opera, K said something abt what most women know already: Opera is an expensive nap for men.
To keep the attention span of brutes like me, maybe they should have incorporated aliens, space ships, and explosions on the NAC stage, just like the opera scene from the movie "The Fifth Element" in which Inva Mula (as Diva Plagalaguna in the story) was singing, with her beautiful beautiful voice, "Lucia di Lammermoor" by Gaetano Donizetti (click here to read more: http://lotusandcedar.blogspot.com/2011/01/inva-mula-singing-lucia-di-lammermoor.html)
