Earlier today, I heard on CBC Radio a comment (in jest) that goes something like this: ".... If the end of the world is going to happen tomorrow May 21, 2011 at 6 pm, then one should rent/buy the most expensive and luxurious car or whatever indulgence on credit, and go nuts w/o fear of consequences ..."
Or, you can be like me, sitting now inside the Empire 7 cinema, waiting for The Bang Bang club to come onto the silver screen, and planning to (re)read the book tomorrow over a cup of coffee.
Or, you may find the latest "end of the world" prediction as another excuse for putting off your house chores till Sunday, if and when it comes around.

"... Harold Egbert Camping (born July 19, 1921) is a Christian radio broadcaster and president of Family Radio, a California-based religious broadcasting network that spans more than 150 outlets in the United States as well as a website.
He has used Bible-based numerology to predict dates for the end of the world. His current end times prediction is that the Rapture will be on May 21, 2011 and that God will completely destroy the Earth and the universe five months later on October 21. He had previously predicted that the Rapture would occur in September 1994...."

The end of the world
Why does the sun go on shining?
Why does the sea rush to shore?
Don’t they know it’s the end of the world
Cause you don’t love me anymore?
Why do the birds go on singing?
Why do the starts glow above?
Don’t they know it’s the end of the world
It ended when I lost your love
I wake up in the morning and I wonder Why ev’rything is the same as it was
I can’t understand, no, I can’t understand How life goes on the way it does!
Why does my heart go on beating?
Why do these eyes of mine cry?
Don’t they know it’s the end of the world?
It ended when you said goodbye
sorry
”Why do the stars glow above“
the above was mistaken as starts it was too bad !
世界末日?
那些儍瓜....
我擔心唔夠錢過下半世多啲,
世界末日好吖,
唔洗驚過唔到下半世了。
唔客氣講聲,
那是食飽無憂米的人想的無聊事!
SBB:
Thank you for reminding me of the song. I heard it when I was young but never knew who was the singer until your piqued my interest with the lyrics.
SBB: No prob :)

I don't know how rich or how much spare time the leader and followers have in their hands. But these ppl actually believe whole-heartedly in what they are saying, religiously !! While, they have their rights under the US freedom of speech and religion, I still find it scary that there are so many followers !!! I still remember the cult shooting and cynide suicide led by Jim Jones in Jonestown, Guyana on Nov 18, 1978, when 918 men, women and children died !!

pique and piqued 哎呀! 我無心得罪兄台你的呀!
Space:
The English equivalent is "peak" as in "what you just said really peaks my interests".
But the original French word is "piquer 蜇" which sounds painful but actually means "stir up" or "stimulate" (someone's interest).
