星期日凌晨4時15分鬧鐘響後,我仍是蒙頭大睡,要不是手机後備 alarm 提醒,我真会重蹈覆轍,重演數年前 ski marathon 滑雪馬拉松一役,錯過了入閘時間。
我在6時45分到達市中 Laurier Avenue 和 Elgin Street 交界处,與其他∕她參加者在出發點集合。今屆渥太華賽跑週末 Ottawa Race Weekend 主辦的賽事求過於供,4000個全馬拉松和10,000個半馬拉松男女健兒在年初已開始擁躍上網報名,到4月中旬,所有比賽項目都已完全售馨。
在7時起步之前幾分鐘,我心裡有數,知道自從春天在 Quebec 魁北克省東部Chic Choc Mountains 越野滑雪傷了左膝之後,沒有繼續訓練長跑,最遠的距離只達10公里,所以我預測這個渥太華馬拉松賽不会有「個人最佳記錄」 Personal Best PB,而是屬於「以完成為目的」 aim to finish 那一類。留得青山在,那怕沒柴燒!!
開賽時出發點人山人海,上屆 Kenya 和 Ethiopia 的男女冠軍,與及其他/她名列前矛丶來自非洲的熱門選手都在前排,而我們這些業餘的「損手損腳」就甘心歸屬後列的助陣生力軍。鎗声一起,男女老幼各跑家奪力奔前,年青好勝心重的立刻爭先恐後,有經驗講戰略的則緩步留氣,不出15公里很多年青人已被有後勁的老手追上,長跑就不是只靠蠻力,是要有計劃和耐心。
在整個賽跑中,因為我沒有自己加上時間壓力,腳步似乎也就輕快了很多。沿途一边跑,一边和吶喊路人招手,和孩子們打 high-five, 好不快活!! 馬拉松賽跑途經「必治活」國家墳場 Beechwood National Cemetery 的時候,我暗地裏說: 『老父,今日無暇探訪,下次再有机会。』跟着提起步伐,重投入那奔走的人海中。
在跨越終線的時候,我屈指一算,這是我自2003年開始的第13個全馬拉松賽跑,時間也不太差,雖不是PB,但和在義大利羅馬跑那次比較也相差不遠 !! 舉頭望天,陽光普照,今年的夏天戶外運動季節是剛剛開始啦!!

Have you run any marathon in the U.S?
Hi Exile: As a matter of fact, no, I have not tried any races down in the States !! I don't mind running one if I happen to be vacationing.

Thanks for the info. The site mentions, among other things, that one would run past by a golf course, a bluff overseeing the Pacific coast, 400-ft hills, etc.
I visited California many years ago, saw the San Diego Freeway, but only went as far south as Long Beach.
I will keep the half-marathon date in mind. Thx !!!

Do u have runner knees? The other day i ran 5 miles in about 45 mins (considered a moderate speed for me), and u know what? my knees failed me the next day! sigh. I could do better, but I stopped cos I know for sure, my knees will give me problems. Proven, they did! I like to run...but I've stopped for a while due to knee probs, and ppl said running is bad for knees!

啤酒花™_J: No, I do not have runner knees. My recent injury was from cross-country skiing.
Each individual has his/her limitations. So, it is hard to make a general statement like : Running can or cannot help your knee. There are so many factors to consider: Age, weight, genetics, pace, distance, frequency, etc.
I would suggest that if your knee hurts real bad, then go see a sport doctor and get the expert advice. You don't want the issue to degenerate, esp later in life.
For me, I combine walking with running both during training and in a marathon race. That works for me !!!
