【愛蓮說】 / Lotus Prose

【愛蓮說】 (宋)周敦頤

水陸草木之花，可愛者甚蕃。

晉陶淵明獨愛菊，自李唐來，世人盛愛牡丹。

予獨愛蓮之出淤泥而不染，濯清漣而不妖；中通外直，不蔓不枝；香遠益清，亭亭淨植，可遠觀而不可褻玩焉。

予謂：菊，花之隱逸者也；牡丹，花之富貴者也；蓮，花之君子者也。

噫！菊之愛，陶後鮮有聞。

蓮之愛，同予者何人？

牡丹之愛，宜乎眾矣！

Hyacinthus said...: 荷分荷花花跟睡蓮,荷花常高出水面幾個身位,而睡蓮則依荷葉托水而生,各俱美態!如圖乃常見白睡蓮,美得清淡優雅,看得人心寧恬靜! 另,睡蓮也有粉紫,別於白蓮另有味道(見附圖)!

Keith said...: I was doing a google search and ended up reading this prose of Lotus--last time I read it I was Form-1 in HK. We never know what inspires us. It is like a seed planted in Haricot's mind and blossom again into pictures of white Lotus lying against the water...and beautiful thought.; 5:29 pm, August 21, 2007

Haricot 微豆 said...: Keith: I am glad you enjoy the pics. Wow, you are right, I learnt that in secondary school too .... it could have been Form I or II. In a way, the white lotus signifies our childhood innocence too. Don't you think so?
